Unlike traditional 4-stroke motorcycles with clutch and gearbox, 4-stroke scooters use belt-driven CVT (Gradual Variable Transmission) to transmit power from the crankshaft to the rear wheel via the gearbox.

The motor of scooters is often located in a smaller space and inside the hull, which spends most of the working time at full throttle.
