Description

Castrol Kleen 3693 is a heavy-duty spray wash cleaning fluid for difficult-to-remove soils. This cleaning fluid removes

accumulated road soils and oxidized oily deposits. Therefore, it is particularly useful to automatic transmission rebuilders.

Manufacturers of new parts will find Castrol Kleen 3693 effectively removes heavy duty pigmented forming compounds,

lapping and polishing compounds, lubricating greases and thick soft-film rust preventives.

Advantages

• Compatible with aluminum transmission bodies and cast iron engine components; enabling users to consolidate the

number of cleaners used in a facility.

• Splits oils to provide easy skimming and long bath life.

• Versatile cleaning fluid that performs well in both spray and immersion applications.

• Moderate pH cleaning fluid that removes the “varnished” oils normally reserved for high pH, corrosive cleaners.

Recommended Concentrations

Spray: 2 - 10%, ambient to 180 ° F (82 ° C); pre-soaking facilitates removal of heavily oxidized, gummy soils Immersion:

5 - 10% concentration; 160 ° F (71 ° C)

Concentration Control

By titration:

1. Place (pipette) 50 ml sample of Castrol Kleen 3693 solution into a flask or beaker.

2. Titrate 1.0 N sulfuric acid from a burette until reaching 4.6 on the pH meter.

3. The concentration of the Kleen 3693 solution in% (v / v) can be calculated by multiplying the volume of 1.0 N sulfuric acid

in ml by the concentration factor.

4. Prior to running tests on field samples, follow the above method using a sample of known concentration to obtain the

concentration factor

Concentration factor =% known concentration / ml acid needed to reach the end point.

Additional Information

Case History Account: Heat treat facility Customer need: This heat treat house receives various steel parts from an

assortment of customers. To properly heat treat parts, the rust preventive coating must be completely removed before

entering the quench furnace. Accordingly, this heat treat facility wanted to produce extremely clean parts with a less

expensive cleaner. For five years, a high-priced competitive cleaner had been used in the one-stage spray washer. The

cleaner often failed to remove the rust preventive, resulting in an additional wash cycle. A 3% concentration of Kleen 3693

is charged to the spray washer. The 350 gallon tank is filtered with a skimmer. Kleen 3693 provides exceptionally clean

parts and eliminates the need for a second wash cycle. In addition, this account is saving $ 15,000 annually in cleaner

cost.
