Description
Castrol Alphasyn ™ GS oils are 100% synthetic gear lubricants based on polyglycols
carefully selected and containing anti-oxidant and anti-corrosion additives and also EP additives (Extreme
Pressure).
Applications
The Alphasyn GS range of oils have inherently superior properties compared to lubricants
conventional, which is why they are particularly suitable for high temperature lubrication of
gears and bearings, especially those of large-scale rolling mills and calenders. In a worm gear
operating with mineral oil at low speed and high torque, the lubricating boundary conditions have
tendency to favor pitting and this results in rapid wear of the worm wheels. Fatty oils (also
called compound oils) have been shown to be effective in reducing pitting, but at high temperatures of
operation, they oxidize quickly. Alphasyn GS oil grades are suitable for these uses and
also allow the intervals between oil changes to be extended. Some manufacturers use them as
lubricants for life.
Advantages
Reduced friction losses, resulting in lower energy consumption and
lower temperatures in the crankcase.
High thermal stability resulting in minimal formation of sludge and deposits.
Better load capacities and reduced wear compared to traditional mineral oils.
Inherently higher viscosity index (VI) which, at the lower pour point, results in a large
operating temperature range (-30 ° C to 150 ° C for continuous global temperatures, with
intermittent operating temperatures up to 220 ° C)
