Mobil Pegasus ™ 605 is a high performance natural gas engine oil primarily designed for the lubrication of modern medium and high speed four-stroke engines operating on fuel containing corrosive materials such as hydrogen sulphide or halogens (compounds containing chlorine, fluorine, etc.). These engines often have a low-mix design where sufficient oil is prevented from reaching the valve guide zone due to the high manifold pressure, with low oil consumption, but consequently, valve guide wear and valve collapse are faster. This effect also increases the corrosion and acidic effect potential of the corrosive materials formed during combustion on the parts of the upper parts of the cylinders. Mobil Pegasus 605 is a 0.5% ash gas engine oil with a unique alkalinity reserve designed to counteract the adverse effects of acidic corrosive substances on engine parts. Excellent corrosion protection properties help prevent corrosive wear in cylinders, valve areas and bearings. This means longer engine life and lower maintenance costs. Mobil Pegasus 605 offers excellent anti-wear and anti-friction performance, helping to minimize piston friction and scratching, as well as cylinder liner and ring wear. This oil can also be used for the lubrication of reciprocating air compressors used in landfill and biomass gas applications.

Scope of application

Note: In engines operating on fuel gas and containing high levels of sulfur or halogen, the coolant (jacket water) and oil temperatures must also be raised.

     • Gas engines operating on fuel containing moderate hydrogen sulfide (H2S)

     Engines running on fuels containing other corrosive materials such as TOHCl (Total Organic Halides such as Chloride), such as waste material or biomass gas

     Spark ignited four-stroke gas engines with very low oil consumption

     Medium and high speed four-stroke engines with catalytic converters requiring low ash gas engine oil

     Engines exposed to valve train wear and corrosion

     • Reciprocating compressors operating on natural gas containing sulfur or chloride compounds

     High output or naturally aspirated motors operating at or higher rated power at high temperatures
