Description
Castrol Universal 80W-90 is a multipurpose gear lubricant for use in both synchronised manual transmissions and final drives and differentials where either API GL-4 or API GL-5 are specified. Castrol Universal 80W-90 has viscosity temperature characteristics very close to 75w-90 gear oils. Castrol Universal 80W-90 has significantly better low temperature fluidity than conventional SAE 80W-90 gear oils. Castrol Universal 80W-90 replaced Castrol Multitrax.
Careful formulation helps ensure better synchroniser performance than most GL-5 gear oils.
Application
Recommended for most transaxles that contain both helical and hypoid gears. Examples of vehicles with combined transmission and hypoid differentials where Castrol Universal 80W-90 is suitable include the following:
Alfa Romeo - many manual models from 1975 up to approx. 1990
Porsche - manual models up to approx. 200, except certain 924 model
Subaru - manual models up to 2013
Toyota - many 4WD's and selected passenger vehicles
Castrol Universal 80W-90 is recommended in place of conventional SAE 80W-90 GL-4 or 5 gear oils where improved cols shift is desired.
Suitable for use where GMH HN 2013 is cited.
Advantages
A single product for transmissions and final drives reducing inventory and the potential for misapplication
High temperature stability gives superior performance and extended drain potential.
Optimised synchroniser performance gives smooth gear shifting at all temperatures.
Excellent wear protection extends component life and reduces maintenance costs
