Description
Castrol Aero ™ 40 is a MIL-H-5606 mineral-based hydraulic fluid
base with the addition of shear stable viscosity modifiers, oxidation inhibitors, antiwear
additives as well as approved extreme pressure additives. Aero ™ 40 is produced in two versions:
dyed red in accordance with Douglas Aircraft requirements and unpainted in accordance with
Boeing Spec BMS 3-32, Type II
Application
The Aero 40 is designed for use in aircraft landing gear shock mounts. Compatible with
fluids approved according to MIL-PRF-6083 and MIL-H-5606. Not fully compatible with synthetic
oils for gas turbine engines, as well as with hydraulic fluids based on phosphate esters
acid. Compatible with other petroleum-based and synthesized lubricants
hydrocarbons, however mixing is recommended to be avoided in order to preserve the unique properties of the Aero 40.
Compatible with seals, hoses and paints commonly used in poles
chassis and refueling equipment. Compatibility information is for reference only and requires
confirmation in each case.
Specifications
Aero 40 Red is designed according to Douglas Aircraft DPS 3.334 specification, identified by
part number DPM 6176. Aero 40 also corresponds to Boeing Service Letters 707-
SL-12-2; 727-SL-12-2; 737-SL-12-2 and 757-SL-27-15-B, which indicate the need to add
extreme pressure additives.
