Mobiltherm heat transfer oils are high performance products designed for use in closed indirect heating installations. Recommended for use in cold oil sealed indirect heating and cooling systems in all industrial processes.

Mobiltherm heat transfer oils are formulated from highly refined base oils resistant to thermal cracking and chemical oxidation. They are very thermally stable and can be used for quite a long time without deposit formation or viscosity increase.

Mobiltherm heat transfer oils have good heat transfer efficiency and their viscosity is such that they are easily pumped at both start-up and operating temperatures. They show certain thermal conductivity, which allows faster heat dissipation. Thanks to their resistance to thermal cracking at recommended operating temperatures, the flash points of these oils do not significantly decrease in use.

Usage places

Application Considerations: Mobiltherm heat transfer oils should not be mixed with other oils as they may impair their excellent thermal and oxidation stability, causing alteration of other properties and confusion in analysis for determining service life. Vapor lock may occur if oils are used above recommended maximum temperatures and the system is not designed to operate at higher temperatures by pressurizing with an inert gas such as nitrogen. When the temperature rises above the recommended limit at higher temperatures, fluid life may be shortened due to the significantly increased rate of thermal degradation. In well designed systems, the oil film temperature surrounding the heating element should be 15ºC to 30ºC above the oil temperature. If the temperature is higher than the specified level, the service life of the oil may be shortened and the heat transfer rates may change due to deposit and coke build-up.

As with other mineral oils, Mobiltherm heat transfer oils should only be used in systems with pressure circulation. Systems dependent on heat dissipation for circulation of the heat transfer medium do not provide sufficient flow rate to prevent local overheating and rapid deterioration of the oil. In addition, these oils are not recommended for use in open systems where hot oil is exposed directly to the air. Hot Mobiltherm oils can instantly catch fire if sprayed or escaped at oil leak points.

The Mobiltherm 600 series can be used in open and closed installations where the oil temperature ranges are as shown in the table below.

     Mobiltherm 603: Closed Systems (up to 285º C), Open Systems (up to 150º C)

     Mobiltherm 605: Closed Systems (up to 315 C), Open Systems (up to 180 C)

     Mobiltherm 610: Open systems (up to 250º C

     Mobiltherm 611: Open systems (up to 275º C)
